Production Planner

Job Description:

Schedules equipment and personnel, confirms material supply and demands, prepares work orders or purchase requests for the production or purchase of components or parts based on a master production schedule, shop load and inventory requirements. inventory control, traffic, etc.; schedules and expedites the movement of parts by means of move orders, stock transfers and requests for shipping orders.

Strategic alignment and coordination of labor and materials to ensure that customer orders are fulfilled.  Utilize MRP/ERP to evaluate inventory and customer demand to set production schedule.  Use MS Excel to analyze and plan production schedule.  Aide in the development a planning tool that will help streamline orders and processing so that the customer needs are met.  Plan, prepare, issue and control production schedules and coordinate with material requirements to ensure a controlled flow of approved materials timed to meet production requirements.  Advise to the management of the status of work in progress, material availability, and potential production problems to ensure that personnel, equipment, materials and services are provided as needed.  Coordinates interdepartmental activity with manufacturing, purchasing, engineering, and production management to schedule and expedite the product through manufacturing.

 

Knowledge/Skills/Competencies:

  • Basic knowledge of a manufacturing environment, materials and processes.
  • Basic knowledge of production planning fundamentals, scheduling, materials requirements planning techniques and manufacturing control systems
  • Basic knowledge of purchasing principles, techniques and philosophies.
  • Knowledge of basic computer applications such as WORD, Excel, PowerPoint and multiple business applications.
  • Basic understanding of customer needs.
  • Good analytical and statistical skills.
  • Ability to plan strategically for the coordinated build and delivery of one or several products.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks while maintaining attention to detail and accuracy and working under tight time deadlines.
  • Ability to evaluate, prioritize and problem solve a variety of tasks to ensure their timely and accurate completion.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with a wide variety of internal and external customers.
