Spring cleaning is often characterized by windows being cranked open to let those long-awaited scents of spring inside our closed-up homes. full garbage cans sitting by the curb packed with non-essential clutter, and the sound of a vacuum whirring its way through a year’s worth of dust and debris.

But for many, spring cleaning activities happen as schedules allow, tackling different sections of the house over time. As leaders in bathroom remodeling, we know a thing or two about cleaning this uber-important family space. So that you can prioritize your to-do list, we’ve organized these must-do bathroom cleaning ideas according to the time you have to spare.

How To Freshen Up The Bathroom

Time: 5-10 minutes

  1. Wipe down countertop and toilet surfaces with all-purpose wipes.
  2. Spray mirrors, faucets and handles with glass cleaner
  3. Throw towels in the laundry and put out a fresh set.
  4. Replace old bar soap with a liquid soap dispenser.
  5. Spritz a freshening spray
  6. Replace burnt-out bulbs
  7. Empty trash can

Time Saving Tip: Place several plastic grocery bags in the bottom of the trash can before using one to line it. Next time you go to empty the trash can, simply pull out the full bag, and grab one underneath to re-line the can.

How To Clean Bathroom

Time: 15-30 minutes

  1. Gather all used towels to launder.
  2. Spray foaming bathroom cleaner on countertops, toilet, sinks and shower walls.
  3. While it works its magic, sprinkler powder cleaner in the tub and fill with a small amount of hot water.
  4. Wipe down the countertops and sinks with a paper towel. Use a second paper towel to wipe down the toilet.
  5. Use the shower sprayer to rinse down the walls with hot water.
  6. Squirt a ring of cleaner around the inside of the toilet bowl and let it soak in.
  7. Using a sponge, scrub the bathtub walls while the water drains.
  8. Spray mirrors, shower doors and faucet handles with window cleaner.
  9. Flush the toilet.
  10. Wipe down mirrors, shower doors and faucet handles.
  11. Place clean towels on towel bars and hooks.
  12. Empty trash can and place clean liner in can.
  13. Sweep and wet mop your way out of the room.

Time Saving Tip: Keep a container of disinfecting wipes under the sink in each bathroom for quick touch-ups between regular cleanings.

Time: 45 – 60 minutes

  1. Gather all used towels to launder.
  2. Remove all items from countertops.
  3. If you have glass shower doors, carefully remove these one at a time and set aside (in the same order they’ll need to be put back).
  4. Unscrew plastic door glides and soak in hot water with a capful of bleach.
  5. Remove all bottles and miscellaneous items from shower shelves, bench seats and/or floor.
  6. Spray foaming bathroom cleaner on shower walls—especially grout lines in tile—countertops, toilet and sinks (Not a fan of maintaining grout? Consider grout-free materials.).
  7. While the foam works its magic, sprinkle powder cleaner in the tub and fill with a small amount of hot water. Tired of cleaning a tub you rarely use? It might be time for a tub-to-shower conversion.
  8. Wipe down countertops and sinks with a paper towel. Use a second paper towel to wipe down the toilet.
  9. Scrub shower walls and turn on hot water to rinse clean.
  10. Squirt a ring of cleaner around the inside of the toilet bowl and let it soak in.
  11. Using a sponge, scrub the bathtub walls while the water drains.
  12. Spray mirrors and faucet handles with window cleaner.
  13. Flush the toilet.
  14. Wipe down mirrors and faucet handles.
  15. Spray shower doors with window cleaner and wipe down. For stubborn soap scum, spray foaming cleaner and let soak in before scrubbing, then follow with window cleaner.
  16. Flip doors to clean opposite side of glass and repeat.
  17. Place clean towels on towel bars/hooks.
  18. Empty trash can and place clean liner in can.
  19. Rinse shower door glides and put back in place.
  20. Put shower doors back in place.
  21. Sweep bathroom floor.
  22. Sprinkle powder cleaner along grout lines.
    With a wet scrub brush and sponge, work your way back out of the bathroom, scrubbing the floor and grout lines along the way.

Time Saving Tip: In addition to a container of disinfecting wipes, store a bottle of shower cleaner under the sink for quick spray-downs between regular cleanings. This will make those regular scrubbings less taxing.
